Bio

My name is Valerie McWhorter and I teach 5th grade Reading at Sharp Creek Elementary School.

Education:

Tennessee Technological University in 2008 and obtained my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education prek-8th grade

University of Phoenix in 2011 and obtained by Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction

Gifted Certification K-5 in 2021

I have been teaching since 2008. I have taught 3rd and 4th grades all content areas, and I am excited to be teaching 5th grade reading. I have also been the Academic Team and History Bee coach for SCES since 2020. I am proud to be a Sharp Creek Indian!

Background:

I am from a small town in Kingston, TN and moved here when I was married in 2009. My husband, Ivan, and I have been married for over ten years, and we live near Roopville. We have three beautiful girls, Ava, Allie, and Abigail. They keep us busy! When I'm not teaching, time with my family is most important. We like to go camping, watch football (University of Tennessee fan!), visit museums, and travel to the mountains or the beach.  I am also an active member in church and with my children's sports activities.
